How to Upgrade from Arcserve Backup r16.5 to r17

The Arcserve Backup Tape Integration module lets you back up Arcserve UDP sessions to the Arcserve Backup media. The Arcserve Backup media can be file systems, devices, tape media, NAS devices, and devices that reside on a SAN.The process of backing up UDP data is identical to the steps that are required to back up files, folders, nodes, servers, and more.

This backup method lets Arcserve Backup synthesize full backup sessions from the full and incremental UDP backup sessions. The synthesized backup sessions can be used to recover UDP data at file level, folder level, and application level granularity, and to perform full system recoveries of the UDP servers, such as bare metal recovery.

To upgrade to Arcserve Backup r17 from a previous release, follow these steps:

  1. Review the Upgrade Considerations section to understand the Arcserve Backup supported upgrade paths.
  2. Specific Arcserve Backup r17 hardware is required. For more information on the detailed hardware requirements, see the Arcserve Backup Release Notes.

Note: Ensure that all scheduled and running jobs are complete before proceeding with the upgrade.

To complete the upgrade process, see Upgrade Arcserve Backup from a Previous Release.
