Direct Access Restore (DAR)

Direct Access Restore (DAR) is a Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) feature that allows backup applications to store the file history and tape offset information in its catalogs.

NetApp Filer

NetApp Filers also known as NetApp Fabric-Attached Storage (FAS), are used as Storage Area Network (SAN) and networked storage appliances. Filers use Network Appliance's Data ONTAP microkernel OS and Write Anywhere File Layout file system (WAFL). Filers use file-based protocols such as NFS, CIFS, FTP, TFTP and HTTP to serve storage over a network.

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

Network-attached storage (NAS) is file-level computer data storage device connected to a network. It uses NFS and CIFS/SMB protocols to manage file operations.

Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)

Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) is an open protocol used to transport data between NAS devices and backup devices. It separates the data path from the control path and reduces the dependency on network resources.
