Welcome to the CA ARCserve Central Applications r16.5 Update 1 Release Notes file. This Release Notes file contains important information about Update 1.

2.0 Enhancements and Modifications

Update 1 includes enhancements and modifications to improve the quality and performance of CA ARCserve Central Applications.

This release also includes solutions to problems that were detected in previous releases of CA ARCserve Central Applications. For more information, see Issues Fixed.

2.1 New Features Included With CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup Update 1

CA ARCserve Central Applications r16.5 Update 1 includes the following enhancements and modifications to improve the quality and performance of CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup:

• CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup is now enhanced to protect non-Windows virtual machines that run on VMware ESX Servers. You can perform full and incremental backups, and can recover VM operations. However, you cannot perform file or application level restore from non-Windows virtual machine backup sessions.

3.0 Prerequisites

Before you install this update, verify that the following applications, as appropriate, are installed:

• CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup r16.5 General Availability (GA) release
• CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager r16.5 GA release
• CA ARCserve Central Reporting r16.5 GA release
• CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby r16.5 GA release

4.0 Installation Files

CA ARCserve Central Applications r16.5 Update 1 contains the following installation files:

• CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup

  CA_ARCserve_Central_HBVB_R16_5_Update_1.exe

• CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager

  CA_ARCserve_Central_PM_R16_5_Update_1.exe

• CA ARCserve Central Reporting

  CA_ARCserve_Central_Report_R16_5_Update_1.exe

• CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby

  CA_ARCserve_Central_VSB_R16_5_Update_1.exe

5.0 Installation Instructions

There are two methods that you can use to install Update 1.

• Install Update 1 using the update utility from the Home Page.
• Install Update 1 manually using the installation media posted on the CA Support website.

To install Update 1 using the update utility from the Home Page, follow these steps:

1. Open and log in to the application.
2. From the top right corner of the Home Page, click Help, and then click Check Updates.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Update 1.

To install Update 1 manually, download and install the installation media listed below.

1. CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager

2. CA ARCserve Central Reporting

6.0 Issues Fixed

Update 1 fixes the following issues:

• T2D2954: FULL BACKUP PERFORMED AND NOT INCREMENTAL

  CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup always performs a full backup even though an incremental backup was specified. The following entries are logged in to the backup log: "Disk XXX size changed, DiskSize=167040034816, NewDiskSize=167040035328" and "Do full backup for disk XXX because it is newly added or its size changed."

• T2D2971: COULD NOT GET VOLUME INFO FROM VM GUEST OS

  Some virtual machines that perform backup from CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup receives the following warning message: "Could not get volume information from virtual machine guest OS".

• T2D2961: BUCKET WITHOUT PREFIX ON CLOUD DATA OVERWRITTEN

  When you create a policy in CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager and you set the File Copy Settings to the Amazon S3 cloud destination, the bucket name on the cloud does not contain a prefix after the policy is assigned to each CA ARCserve D2D. This issue can cause two different CA ARCserve D2D machines copying the data to the same bucket.

  After you apply this fix, create a policy and deploy it to all CA ARCserve D2D machines.
