Introduction

CA ARCserve RHA provides replication and high availability for the following commercially available applications:

In addition to these popular applications, unsupported applications and data can still be protected using Full System or File Server scenarios. However, File Server scenarios provide data protection only; applications themselves are difficult to support without custom scripting to manage services. Effective with this release, a new scenario type called Custom Application Protection provides replication and high availability for unsupported applications and data without custom scripting for services management.

In a Custom Application scenario, CA ARCserve RHA monitors the services you specify, starts them according to the start order you set, and triggers switchover if a critical service fails (in HA scenarios). Custom Application scenarios should not be used to protect applications already supported, like Microsoft SQL or Exchange Server, or to manage complex services. However, for simple applications that can be gracefully started and stopped using Windows Services, Custom Application scenarios provide the framework for replication and high availability with minimal customization.
