Arcserve Backup is a data management and backup program that allows you to back up data from your workstation or other machines attached to your network.
The advantages include:
Scheduled Backups--Enables you to schedule custom-made backup jobs that begin at a specific time, at regular intervals, or both. For more information, see Job Scheduling Information.
Easy-to-use Interface--Enables Arcserve Backup administrators to use a graphical interface to perform administration and job management functions.
Media Rotation--Allows for the planning and customization of GFS media rotation schemes with a calendar view interface.
Media Spanning--Provides automatic media spanning on large backups.
Built-in Small Changer Support--Provides built-in changer support for one tape drive with an unlimited number of slots. The Arcserve Backup Library option can be purchased to accommodate changers with multiple drives. For more information, see Tape Library Option - Built-In Support.
Parallel Streaming--Enables jobs to be run concurrently when using multiple storage devices. For more information, see Media Groups.
Reports--View job history and activity reports on the machines, directories, tapes, and other media. For more information, see Arcserve Backup Logs and Reports.
Enterprise Client Agent Support--Supports the backup of remote machines using the Arcserve client agents (such as the NetWare client agent), which employ the latest push technology. Client agents maximize your Arcserve Backup server capabilities and speed by off-loading the processing of the backup, restore, and compare functionality directly to the machine on which the Client Agent resides. Available for the Advanced Edition only.
Arcserve Antivirus Integration--Automatically scans files for viruses during a backup operation. Viruses can be excluded from the backup or the file names can be logged. For more information, see Virus Options (Windows).
User-definedjob scripts--Allow you to configure jobs once and re-use them when needed.
Encryption support--Provides password protection and encryption on all your backup jobs to ensure network security. For more information, see Compression and Encryption for Backup Jobs.
Automatic Media Rotation Scheme--Allows you to schedule repeating backup jobs that are custom-made for your environment. Arcserve Backup uses an automatic rotation scheme, which can be a simple rotation or a Grandfather- Father-Son rotation.
GFS Media Prediction Report--Enables you to produce reports containing detailed media information for media pools used in your rotation schemes, including media status and session information.
Multiple Node Copy Support--Enables you to copy files from multiple locations to a single target directory.
Preferred Machines--Allows you to access all the volumes of a specified machine as a share in the Preferred Shares/Machines node of the Backup Manager.
Intelligent Restore--Allows you to quickly locate and restore your archived data using Arcserve Backup advanced database system.
Tape Support--Enables you to back up your files to a wide variety of SCSI 4mm, 8mm, DLT, and QIC tape devices.
Remote Server Management--Enables you to manage multiple Arcserve Backup servers from a single machine. Gives you the ability to back up, copy, and restore any Windows machine, UNIX and Novell NetWare servers in your network.
