- Open the Arcserve Backup Manager Console and from the Navigation bar, expand Administration and select Device Configuration.
The Device Configuration dialog opens.
- Select the Disk-based Devices option and click Next.
The Login Server dialog opens.
- Enter the required security credentials (Username and Password) for the Primary Server and click Next.
- Select the desired server and click Next.
The Disk-Based Device Configuration dialog opens, displaying separate tree branches for Windows File System Devices and Deduplication Devices.
- Click Add.
A new file system device is created with the name FSD1.
- Click the FSD1 text under the File Device Name column and give the new device a name.
- Click the blank space under the Description column and add a brief description.
- Click the blank space under the Data File Location column to specify the location of the file system device.
You can click the arrow button to open the Choose Directory dialog, where you can browse for the location. You can also manually enter the full path of the file system device. You can use a local directory, a mapped network drive that you have previously logged on to, or a shared folder on the network.
Important! If you specified a mapped drive path as a file system device location, please consider the following:
- After you click Finish, the mapped drive path will be converted to the UNC format and a security warning will be displayed.
- If you did not change the security information for this file system device, Arcserve Backup will use the Arcserve Backup System Account to access the shared folder mapped to the drive. This account must have full access rights to the shared folder. If the Arcserve Backup System Account does not have full rights, the file system device will not work. The media will be displayed as "Unrecognized Media Format" or "Unreadable Media" if the security set is not correct for the networked File System Device. To change the security information on the file system device, highlight the device and click the Security button.
- The status displayed in the Device Name column indicates Pending while the devices are being configured.
If the status displayed is Failed:
- Make sure the paths you specified for the Location are unique for each device.
- Ensure the security credentials are accurate.
- Check that the volume is shared.
Note: From Device Configuration, you can add one or many devices. When you click Next, Arcserve Backup verifies the validity of information specified for all devices and alerts you if a particular device failed verification. Click the corresponding Verify button located in the Verify and Status column, or do so for each device as you configure it, to ensure successful verification before continuing. There are three possible outcomes displayed in this column:
- Pending--Displayed while a device is being configured.
- Pass-Displayed when verification of the information you specified succeeds.
- Failed--Displayed when Arcserve Backup finds problems with the information you specified. Click Failed in the Verify and Status column to obtain the cause of failure for each device that did not pass verification.
- Click Exit.
