Check or Change the Microsoft SQL Server Authentication Method-MSSQLSvrW
To check or change the Microsoft SQL Server authentication method for SQL Server 7.0 or 2000
- On the system where Microsoft SQL Server is running, open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
- In the Tree pane, expand the entries below Console Root until you reach the instance of the database server.
- Right-click the instance and select Properties from the drop-down list. The Properties dialog opens.
- In the Properties dialog, choose the Security tab.
- Under Authentication, select either Microsoft SQL Server and Windows to enable Microsoft SQL server-based authentication or Windows Only to enable only Windows user names and passwords.
- Click OK.
- Restart the SQL Server instance for the changes to take effect.
To check or change the Microsoft SQL Server authentication method for SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
- On the system where Microsoft SQL Server is running, open the SQL Server Management Studio.
- Connect to the instance of Microsoft SQL Server that you want to change.
- In the Object Explorer pane, right-click the instance and select Properties from the drop-down list. The Properties dialog opens.
- In the Properties dialog, choose the Security page.
- Under Server Authentication, select either SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode to enable Microsoft SQL Server-based authentication, or Windows Authentication Mode to enable only Windows users.
- Click OK.
- Restart the SQL Server instance for the changes to take effect.
