Create a Media Pool

To create a media pool, perform the following procedure:

1. Click Media Pool Management in the Quick Access window or select Media Pool from the Manager Menu.

   The Media Pool Manager screen appears.

2. From the Media Pool Manager menu, select New Pool.

   The Media Pool Configuration dialog appears which contains the following fields:

   • Pool Name
   • Base Serial Number
   • Next Serial Number
   • Serial Number range
   • Minimum # of media in Save Set
   • Retention Time (days)
   • Prune Retention Time (days)

   Pool Name is an empty field that needs to be filled in. Base Serial Number, Serial Number Range Fields, Minimum # of media in Save Set, Retention Time, and Prune Retention Time contain default values that you can change if you want.

3. Enter the values in the appropriate fields, and click OK.

   The new media pool icon appears in the left pane, together with the name of the media pool. You can now assign media to this media pool.

Arcserve Backup itself also creates a media pool or pools (if they do not already exist) when you submit a simple or GFS rotation backup job.
