NAS Timeout Error During Large NDMP Backups

Valid on Windows

Symptom

During a backup, you receive a timeout error in either the activity log or the NAS Agent log.

Activity log error:

Failed to receive data from the agent. (Node=<node name>)

NAS Agent log errors:

[2828] ndmpMoverGetState returned error (NDMP_TIMEOUT_ERR)

[2828] ndmpDataGetState returned error (NDMP_TIMEOUT_ERR)

Solution

Increase the default value in the BKReceiveTimeOut registry key. The default value is 6, however if your backup contains a large number of files or data, then the default value should be increased to a value appropriate for the size of the backup. This value indicates in minutes how long the server should wait before a timeout error, since a larger workload can mean a longer backup time. This key is located in the registry here:
