Catalog Job fails when backing up a large number of files on Windows 2003 x86 machine

For Windows 2003 x86, if you are attempting to back up a large number of files (in excess of 80 million) and the catalog generation job fails, perform the following:

  1. Locate the boot.ini file (c:\boot.ini) and increase the virtual memory from 2 GB (default value) to 3 GB by adding the "/3GB" switch as follows:

  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Set the DoListSort registry value as follows:
