Restore Job Activity Log Errors

Symptom

If there are any unreachable cloud devices when you submit a restore job, the restore job completes successfully but there may be the following errors in the Restore Job Activity Log:

E6008 [server name] [date time]

Device communication failure [Cloud Device [cloud device name]: [Cloud library internal error.]]

E6112 [server name] [date time]

Failed to read the tape's header. (Serial Number=[])

Solution

When you perform a restore job, the task will send the tape name, random ID, and sequence number to the Tape Engine in which to find the group the device is located. Once found, the Tape Engine will enumerate all the groups and open the devices in the groups, read the tape header, and then compare the read tape name, random ID, and sequence number with the inputs. If they are all equal, the group is found. When the restore job attempts to open the cloud device and read the tape header, then one of the two errors described previously are returned. This is because the Tape Engine is not aware if it requires the cloud device or not. This does not affect the actual restore job, which completes successfully.
