Retry Mechanisms

Some backup programs try to gain access to open files by attempting a series of open requests, so that one of the attempts in the series might succeed. This method of backing up open files can only be partially successful, and it is rendered obsolete by the ability of the agent to obtain unconditional access to open files. You should, therefore, disable any such retry mechanisms in your backup program.

For example, if you are using Arcserve Backup, ensure that you disable the Retry Immediately option in the Open File Retry Options area of the Global Options dialog.

Note: The agent does not provide the eTrust® Real-Time scan engine with access to open files. This is to prevent a virus from potentially hiding itself, by presenting the scan engine with a version of the infected file concealed as an uninfected file.
